How to make cannabis oil

How to make cannabis oil

Making your own cannabis oil at home is not as difficult as you think.

Whether you have begun to enjoy the benefits of cannabis in the 70s, or that you are relatively new in this latest new on Royal CBD's brand new website for 2020, it is quite difficult to argue that in 2020 we are definitely living the future of cannabis.

What is cannabis oil?

Cannabis oil, like its green leafy mother, has a variety of names. Hash oil, honey oil or canna oil, for starters.

Whatever you want to call this beautiful compound is up to you, but essentially the defining factor of cannabis oil is how it is made. Canna oil is a semi-liquid or solid-state oil that is extracted from the marijuana plant.

The way in which it is extracted determines the appearance of the final product. All cannabis oil contains CBD and THC, as well as some other cannabinoids.

What are cannabinoids?

Maybe we should step back. Cannabinoids are any of the chemical compounds that interact with the endocannabinoid system of the human body.

This system consists of a lot of small receptors that we have throughout our body. When we ingest a cannabinoid (such as THC or CBD), they interact directly with the receptors and release specific neurotransmitters that then perform different tasks in the body.

The marijuana plant has at least 113 different cannabinoids that science has found, but the two that really matter most are CBD and THC.

THC is the psychoactive component of marijuana; it is what puts you in “wave”. While CBD is not psychoactive, it also plays some vital roles in the way our bodies function after ingestion.

Each of these cannabinoids performs different functions in the body, far above and beyond if it puts you in "wave" or not. Both can be natural or synthetically produced. While science does not have a clear idea of what all (113!) Cannabinoids do in the body; research suggests that almost everyone plays some kind of role.

This is what makes synthetic cannabis much less effective, since it usually lacks all non-THC or CBD cannabinoids.

Hemp oil vs cannabis oil

Another product that is making waves in the green market is CBD oil or hemp oil. While CBD oil has many benefits, it lacks THC in cannabis oil, which reduces the amount of benefits.

Taking CBD from a plant that has much less cannabinoids, or creating it in a laboratory, will further reduce its effectiveness. For cannabis oil to be an effective cancer treatment, it must contain THC.

The balance of THC to CBD will vary depending on the desired effects, but it needs both to work. In addition, CBD oil is now mass produced using aggressive chemicals and lower quality plants, if not created synthetically in its entirety. Therefore, it is important that you know where your oils come from. That's why doing it at home is generally better.

How does it work?

We're out of the basics and now we're going back to canna oil. It has been found that cannabis oil has several different medicinal effects. Possibly the most promising is the research that is being carried out and that suggests that canna oil can stop the growth of cancer cells.

It could even help the body destroy tumor cells, which is really capturing people's attention. In addition to its antitumor properties, canna oil has also been shown to help with other things such as insomnia, eating disorders, seizures, inflammatory diseases, chronic pain, as well as promoting heart health by reducing stress and lower blood pressure

The medicinal benefits of cannabis oil increase even more when considering the ease of consumption. Cannabis oil does not have to be smoked; In fact, many of its medicinal properties can be enjoyed when vaping or eating, so even people with lung or digestion problems have the ability to obtain many of its benefits.

Cannabis oil can vary from a light golden brown to a dark and thick glob. Extraction methods and temperatures will define how the oil will look.

Steps to make cannabis oil

Making oil at home is much simpler than you think. Herb oil and vape oil use the same "recipe" as standard canna oil, with only a few minor adjustments. The recipe by which most people prefer to make the oil at home is the little famous "Rick Simpson Method". While we will not devote a ton of time to the journey of this incredible man, it is definitely worth investigating.

Homemade cannabis oil

Making cannabis oil at home using Rick Simpson's method is something that almost anyone can do. It all starts with a few simple ingredients:

99.5% Isopropyl Alcohol

  1. In a ratio of 2 gallons / pound of marijuana or 2 cups / ounce
  2. Chill the alcohol in a freezer the night before to facilitate the desired effect

Marijuana

  1. Indica Cola of high quality is the plant of choice
  2. 1 ounce of good quality marijuana should generally produce 3-4 grams of oil

Then, you will need some provisions:

  • Two stainless steel pots or food grade plastic buckets.
  • Long wooden spoon
  • Stainless steel rice cooker.
  • Electric fan.
  • Extension cord.
  • Plastic funnels.
  • Coffee filters
  • Clean plastic or glass bottles.
  • Stainless steel measuring cup.
  • Coffee heater.
  • Large syringes

* Test and make sure the supplies you use are made of stainless steel or food grade. In this way, protective coatings or plastics will not filter any chemicals in your oil.

Now the process:

Step one

Place your marijuana in the large pot or bucket. Apply enough cold isopropyl alcohol to moisten the herb. Crush and stir for about five minutes so that the plant can release its cannabinoids more easily.

Step two

Add enough cold isopropyl alcohol to completely cover the plant mixture. Stir, crush and crush for another five minutes to completely combine the new alcohol with the previous mixture. This step is called "washing."

Step three

Give the mixture a second to settle and then pour as much liquid as you can into the second bucket. Try to leave as much of the plant mixture as possible in the first bucket. It doesn't have to be perfect, since you'll strain everything later, but the more plants you leave in the first bucket, the more cannabinoids you can extract.

Step four

Repeat step two in the first bucket, dipping the vegetable matter again and stirring and crushing for five minutes.

Step five

Repeat step three. At this point, you can go for a third round of washing, but do not add this mixture in the second bucket. Get a new bucket for this wash, as this mixture will have an extremely low cannabinoid content. This material is ideal for topical applications of canna oil, while the first two washes will provide the basis for ingested oils.

Step six

Allow the solvent to settle in the second bucket while cleaning what you used in the previous steps. Use the plant material to use it as a super soil (ideal for growing more marijuana). Clean and rinse the first bucket.

Step seven

Cover the inside of a plastic funnel with a coffee filter and place the funnel on top of one of the jars. Pour the solvent from the second bucket into the jars, using the coffee filters to strain any plant material. You can filter the solvent several times using new filters. Be sure to remove any excess plant matter from solvents. At this point, your liquid should be dark yellow and free of particles.

Step eight

Place the rice cooker and cooling fan in a well-ventilated area (such as outside or in a room dedicated to this production). The idea now is to cook any alcohol that is still inside the liquid solution. The fan must be installed so that it passes through the vents of the rice cooker. This prevents alcohol vapors from condensing in the kitchen.

Alcohol vapors are not only super toxic to inhale, but also incredibly flammable. So, make sure you are in an area that has no flames, sparks or even red-hot elements.

Step nine

Just fill the rice cooker with aproximadamente of its capacity approximately. You don't want it to get too hot.

The rice cooker will automatically heat up and keep its mixture between 210-230 ºF. This is the ideal temperature to boil excess alcohol without boiling (and destroying) canna oil. It also serves to decarboxylate cannabis, which is necessary to produce the ideal tincture.

Step ten

As the mixture reduces (excess alcohol evaporates), you can slowly add any excess solvent that you did not pour in the first round. Just make sure you never exceed ¾.

Step eleven

Once you have added all of your solvent, and the mixture has been reduced to approximately two inches at the bottom of the rice cooker, add ten to twelve drops of water. This will help get rid of any remaining solvent or residue. Gently shake the contents of the rice cooker to boil the excess alcohol.

Step twelve

You will know that it is almost finished when the mixture begins to make a crackling sound and bubbles begin to form. Dark vapor (which may look like smoke) will begin to release from the liquid. Wait for the rice cooker to change to the low position and then turn it off.

Step thirteen

Allow the oil to cool for about five minutes and pour the cooled liquid into a stainless-steel measuring cup. Place the full measuring cup in a coffee heater to completely remove excess water. The oil will bubble while in the heater. This is a sure sign that there is some water left in the mixture. Leave it in the coffee heater until all bubbling has stopped. This can last from five minutes to a few hours.

Step fourteen

Once the bubbling has stopped, remove the measuring cup from the coffee heater and set it aside to cool. Once it has cooled, collect the oil in a large syringe without needles. Then, cover it or store it in bottles with a dark lid and use it as necessary.
